20 Days Till Heaven…Day 6 – Disney Smells, Nurse, and Sleepover
Memories from October 21st, 2016 – Day 6
This day from a year ago started off a little rough. We spoke in the morning after she sent me a text describing how she was feeling. On the call she was complaining of a terrible migraine, being super hot, and throwing up. She was borderline crying and clearly upset a little. I told her to try one of the new ice packs that we had and to try some slow breathing through her nose.

I want to keep telling good fun stories, but at some point I have to add in the reality of the cancer and how it was affecting her lungs as it progressed. She really didn’t sound good at all on this day from listening to the calls, a lot of coughing and shortness of breath.
On our next call I was complaining about not feeling well either. She told me that I was snoring last night and that’s how she would always know that I was going to have a headache the next day. Also on the call she told me that the hospice nurse was coming, I guess to check in and go over things for the 1st time. She told me that my sister was going to watch the kids because my mom was going to sit with her and the nurse, just as an extra ear.
Here is an audio clip of that call.
From the looks of Facebook, we did get a visit from the my sister and the kids cousins.

We planned a lot during this time, one of the many things that we had in place was picture folders set up on my phone. She spent some of this morning sending me her favorite pictures to put in specific folders for the kids and us.

I added our last picture together to the post yesterday, funny thing is it looks like we made mention of needing more of us on this day. Sadly we never got around to it I guess.

Our next call was a little funny to listen to. I would add it to here, but it was 6 minutes long. We had this thing that we did where we tried to learn something new everyday. On this call she had a question about what files sizes could be attached to an email. This was the opportunity to teach her about the difference between KB, MB, GB, and TB. We also laughed about what we learned yesterday at the farm. We learned about the clump of silky hairs at the top of an ear of corn. Did you know that each kernel of corn has one of those hairs? In order for that specific kernel of corn to grow it has to be pollinated from the plant tassel at the top of a corn stalk by the wind or luck. If it is not, then it doesn’t grow, that’s why sometimes your corn is missing some kernels.
A little while later I sent her a message to take her Marinol pills, so that she would be less nauseous and hopefully have an appetite. (we called them mj pills to be funny, but they are just synthetic THC) I was going to surprise her with some crab cakes later if she was in the mood.

On our next call she told me that some visitors from her old job at Verizon had stopped by. She told me about the visit from the hospice nurse. Also, we had what I considered to be a legit argument. She told me that they told her not to call 911 for anything from here on out, but that we had to call the hospice nurse if anything went wrong. I naturally challenged this and asked, “So if you accidentally cut off your finger I have to call the hospice nurse, hope they answer, and then hope you don’t bleed out?” This actually prompted a call to the hospice nurse for clarification to end the argument.
A few days ago I posted about how I got her a surprise and how she asked me if I got it from a vending machine. I realized after I had written about it that I had no idea what the surprise was, but I was curious and wished that I had remembered. Well today I found out when I looked up our memories on Facebook. It was candles that I had purchased for her that resembled scents of Disney. I was so excited to give them to her knowing that she would love them. I even told her that if they were delivered when she was sleeping that I was going to wake her immediately.
Here is an audio clip of that call.

Wrapping up the day, Kate’s sister Ashley and her daughter came for a sleep over. Once again it sounds and looks like it was a good night.
